Probably the most popular cosmetic dental procedure, teeth whitening is a highly effective, quick and completely non-invasive way to enhance your smile. Universally valued it is a method that creates immediate, visible results on your facial aesthetics – in a very affordable cost. A bright smile means health, warmth, happiness and vitality. A whitened smile means you will boom confidence.

The Usual Suspects

The primary reason people opt for a teeth whitening procedure is due to teeth staining and discoloration. There are many culprits to blame, both intrinsic, like age as well as extrinsic, like smoking. The chief factors that may dull the whiteness of your smile are the following:

  • Heavy smoking.
  • Dark-colored liquid drinking, such as coffee, cola and red wine.
  • Improper dental care practices and irregular or absent maintenance.

Whitening Vs Bleaching

Teeth whitening procedures can be separated into two broad categories: Whitening and bleaching. While often used interchangeably the two terms are not synonymous. Whitening restores your teeth to their natural colour, removing any existing stain or debris from them. Bleaching, however, goes a step further than that: It actually makes your teeth even whiter than their natural colour.

What We Offer

In Canning Street Dental we offer you two main options: Custom-made whitening trays and bleaching gels for you to take home and apply at your leisure – we will guide you all the way through the process. In-office whitening, wherein a dentist will carry out an hour-long whitening treatment – this option offers the strongest, most immediate results.

Maintenance

You should be aware that no teeth whitening procedure offers permanent results. Whether you whiten or bleach your teeth, whether you do so in-office or at-home, you will still be required to take care of your teeth as usual, in order to prolong the effects. Otherwise, you are at a risk of re-staining your teeth. You should also take note that large fillings and crowns do not bleach in the whitening process – this may lead to a mismatch in colour. Our staff will be more than happy to provide advice on this too.
